Marty McGowan

Retired in 2012 as a software/technology trainer from Fidessa, a global UK-based financial services provider with about 1/3 of it's staff in North America.

I've been a Unix user and contributor since Jan '79.   My main contribution, while at AT&T was serving as a representative to the IEEE POSIX Operating System standardization of the late '80s and early '90s.  I was a voting member of 1003.1 ( the O/S  standard ), and a working committee member of 1003.3 ( test methods ).  I held this position as one of two principal developers of AT&T's SVVS -- System V Verification Suite.   This suite allowed 3rd party SW vendors ( e.g. IBM's AIX, Digital /Compaq's HPUX, ... ) to assert conformance to AT&T's System V Interface Definition.

I am the principal author of a seminal GPS Patent, #5559520, Wireless Information System for Acquiring Location Related Information. During it's exclusive window, ending 2013, it was likely the most-referenced patent (287 times) with the profusion of mobile smart-phone apps.

My current passion is in promoting the use of shell functions;  I could use your help.
