In questo libro l'autore vi guiderà nel ripercorrere la sua esperienza con Elm, tutto è partito da una semplice voglia: 20 anni fa con VisualBasic potevamo con semplicità creare una app e farla usare a chiunque.
Ora che i tempi sono cambiati e che il nuovo sistema operativo universale è il browser, fare la stessa cosa è più o meno semplice di allora?
La risposta da sviluppatore desktop era, no, non è così semplice.
Sviluppare per il web vuol dire entrare in un mondo di librerie e framework sconfinato, integrazioni fragili e più che altro sempre la stessa schiavitù: dover tenere sempre alta la guardia per evitare gli stessi errori a runtime di 20 anni fa.
Elm ci offre una via d'uscita, un linguaggio dove immutabile è la normalità, dove la composizione è quella funzionale, dove il compilatore si comporta da amico e ci impedisce di rilasciare codice rotto e ci suggerisce anche come correggerlo.
Il libro è aggiornato alla versione 0.17 di Elm, e sarà disponibile gratuitamente per ancora pochi aggiornamenti, poi credo che il prezzo minimo sarà di 1€, in momoria dei vecchi millelire.

Programmatore eclettico, dai tempi dell'Apple II, passando per un 8086 a fosfori arancioni, per arrivare al primo mitico computer personale, un 386 a 40Mhz che stava in una scatola da scarpe (non avevo ancora i soldi per il case). Usa Python dal 1998, nel periodo del passaggio tra la versione 1.5 e la 1.6, e da quel momento ha vissuto tutti i cambi di versione.
Usa Python per lavoro, assieme a Cython, C++, Qt, ma si diletta a sperimentare altri linguaggi: Ocaml, Rust, e da qualche tempo Elm.
