Insbesondere in JavaScript sind solche Ausdrücke eine wichtiger Teil der täglichen Arbeit des Applikationsentwicklers. Darstellungen zu JavaScript verzichten oft auf diesen Aspekt und deshalb entstand dieses Buch, um Lesern gezielt und vor allem kompakt an reguläre Ausdrücke heranzuführen.
Voraussetzungen sind lediglich der Zugang zu einer JavaScript-Umgebung - dazu reicht ein Browser, eine Website wie JSFiddle, oder eine node.js-Umgebung. Darüberhinaus sollten elementare Kenntnisse von JavaScript (ECMAScript 5) vorhanden sein.
